Green standards for funding eligibility.

This agency requires private development projects over 10,000 square feet to achieve green building certification if they receive at least 10 percent of their funding or more than $300,000 from the commission.

LEED and local residential green building standards are applied, depending on project type and size. Private sector commercial buildings must achieve a LEED Silver rating, and city-owned facilities must achieve a LEED Gold rating.

In the United States, commercial buildings provide approximately 78 billion square feet of floor space. These buildings can save 35% or more on annual energy costs through energy-efficient upgrades, creating more than $25 billion in annual savings. (USEPA)
