The Shoreline Recycling and Transfer Station, part of the King County Solid Waste Division, has redefined what state-of-the-art means for transfer stations. The new station will seek LEED Gold certification, thanks to innovative features, including natural daylighting, photovoltaic panels, rainwater collection and reuse, and steps to protect a creek running through the site, such as channeling stormwater runoff and planting native vegetation to prevent creek bed erosion. The station was also designed to maximize its capacity to accept recycled materials.
