New York To Harvest Energy From Sewage Waste
City hopes to reduce cost of sewage treatment and disposal and lower heat-trapping gases emitted in the process.

The city is now casting its sewage treatment plants and the vast amounts of sludge, methane gas and  their byproducts of the wastewater produced by New Yorkers, as an asset — specifically, as potential sources of renewable energy.
