Chicago Unveils New Climate Action Plan
The city builds on its already impressive efforts with a world-class climate action plan.

The City of Chicago builds on its already impressive climate protection and sustainability work with the Chicago Climate Action Plan, which was unveiled in September 2008. This world-class plan is a model for other local governments to follow.

The Chicago Climate Action Plan outlines five strategies, which are broken into 26 actions for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and nine actions to prepare for climate change. The plan details steps for organizations of all kinds and suggests actions for every individual.

Highlights include:
A “Green Office Challenge,” in partnership with ICLEI, that will spur commercial buildings to save energy, increase recycling and water efficiency and reduce waste.
An updated Chicago Energy Efficiency Building Code
Innovative ways to help property owners save money by making their buildings more energy efficient and support for retrofitting low-cost housing complexes
Increased investment in much-needed transit infrastructure to curb emissions and provide mobility options for Chicago residents and visitors.
