Oakland, Calif., Launches Green Jobs Training Program
2009-03-19
The Oakland Green Jobs Corp will train at-risk youth in green construction, solar installation, and other green job skills

Oakland, Calif., is getting a jump-start on the green economy and facilitating its expansion of green buildings through a new green jobs training program. In October 2008, the City of Oakland and several partner organizations began recruiting students for the Green Jobs Corp. Young men and women from impoverished Oakland neighborhoods will work with Cypress Mandela Inc. for job training in areas such as green construction techniques, hazardous-waste recycling, solar installation, energy efficiency, as well as general life skills such as managing finances. The City is one of the first local governments in the nation to implement a green-jobs-corp training program.
