On June 23, 2008, the U.S. Conference of Mayors at their annual conference adopted a resolution supporting the Energy Efficient Codes Coalition’s (EECC) “30% Solution” that would require residential buildings to be 30% more energy efficient by strengthening building codes. The mayors’ resolution is intended to influence the International Code Council (ICC) to support the changes at their tri-annual meeting in September. The proposal calls for better insulation of walls, ceilings and floors; more efficient lighting; reduced air leakage; more efficient windows, and other changes.
