DC Passes Energy Star Benchmarking Law

On August 4, 2008, Mayor Fenty signed Bill 17-0492, The Clean and Affordable Energy Act of 2008, requiring commercial property owners to generate an Energy Star efficiency "score" for their buildings that would then be made available to the public by the District Department of the Environment (DDOE). The legislation includes other energy efficiency measures including the establishment of a Sustainable Energy Utility Advisory Board, the establishment of a renewable energy incentive program, and the establishment of Sustainable Energy and Energy Assistance Trust Funds.
