On June 10, 2008, the Vancouver City Council unanimously adopted the EcoDensity Charter, committing the City to make environmental sustainability a primary goal in all city planning decisions, while still supporting affordable housing and livability. Included in the Charter are new policies requiring all application for new rezoning to earn LEED Silver certification or equivalent and requiring rezoning on sites of two acres or more to meet sustainability measures in addition to the LEED Silver requirements.
