On July 8, 2008, the Nevis Island Assembly adopted the Nevis Geothermal Resources Development Ordinance, 2008, which will provide for the reconnaissance, exploration, drilling, production and use of geothermal resources. It is expected that this legislation will provide Nevis Island with energy independence and help address the rising cost of fuel.
