Climate change poses a significant threat to American towns and cities, and an increasing number of local governments are seeking sustainable solutions in their respective built environments. The Playbook provides strategies, tips and tools that elected officials and their senior managers and staff can apply toward building green and taking immediate action on climate change.

Designed for those new to green development as well as early movers seeking to strengthen their programs, the Playbook consists of three sections: Green Buildings, Green Neighborhoods, and Green Infrastructure.

Each section contains talking points and background materials, designed to prime elected officials and staff on the crucial issues. In addition, detailed how-to resources obtained from local governments across the country provide insight to successful operations. Practical program guidance, policies and regulatory levers flesh out each topic.

Combining all of these materials, The Playbook will guide local governments in taking rapid and effective action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions stemming from buildings and neighborhoods.

The strategic overview component of the Playbook provides the overarching rationale for action, and offers a strategic approach for establishing new programs and building momentum in green development..
