City of Kansas City, Missouri
In April 2007 the Climate Protection Plan Steering Committee submitted a Progress Report to the City Council with recommendations for implementation of 32 Phase 1 greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction measures while development of the City’s plan continued.

Kansas City, MO began developing a Climate Protection Plan August, 2006 that culminated in 32 reccomendations for GHG reductions.

The Progress Report addressed actions in several areas:  transportation, energy, carbon offsets, waste management, public education/outreach, and policy issues.  City Council unanimously adopted a goal of reducing GHG emissions from City government operations 30% below year 2000 levels by 2020 and approved the 32 GHG reduction measures.  The Steering Committee will establish an ambitious community-wide GHG reduction goal for adoption by the City Council.  The City hopes to complete the preparation of its climate protection plan by April 2008.
