Arlington County is enlisting support and commitment from the community to meet this target as well. Arlington is working closely with residents and businesses to reduce emissions through improved building energy efficiency, increased alternative transportation use, and increased recycling practices.
A partnership with EPA's Energy Star program helps focus commercial and high-rise residential building owners and managers on benchmarking energy use and outlining specific energy reduction tactics. Emphasizing a holistic green building approach using LEED helps broaden the efforts to make new and existing buildings more sustainable in the long term. Focused attention on enhancing transit use by residents and employees in Arlington is a key focus of the climate action plan. Finally, the County is improving recycling services in public places and is expanding education efforts to residents and businesses to improve recycling rates countywide.
