City of Albuquerque, New Mexico
ALBUQUERQUEGREEN provides the vision and tools that support Albuquerque's thriving economy and self-renewing, healthy environment in a coordinated and action-oriented approach.

ALBUQUERQUEGREEN is a vital initiative focused on sustainable culture.

Mayor Martin J. Chávez recognized there were no easy solutions to climate change and its deleterious impacts on the environment.  He identified an immediate need for a comprehensive, multi-faceted, performance-oriented approach to reduce Albuquerque's greenhouse gas emissions (GHGEs), and while doing so, encouraging other communities to do the same.
To enlist stakeholders locally, he immediately assembled a team of technical and marketing experts to assist him in developing a comprehensive sustainable development action plan. Eight core targets are identified:

  • Medium density neighborhoods;
  • Transportation innovations;
  • Green buildings;
  • Sustainable urban landscapes;
  • Green innovative utility infrastructure;
  • Sustainable city culture;
  • Sustainable economic development; and,
  • Committed leadership.

ALBUQUERQUEGREEN provides a multi-faceted, integrated approach with real action-oriented solutions to reduce GHGEs and impacts of climate change, including a road map for meeting the Architecture 2030 goal.
